ACCADEMIA SAN FELICE, Ltd London and FESTIVAL delle ORCHESTRE GIOVANILI presents the FLORENCE YOUTH ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL Festival delle orchestre giovanili di Firenze Florence & Tuscany, 15th-30th July 2009 Presentation Over the past ten years the ÔFestival delle Orchestre Giovanili EuropeeÕ has welcomed more than 150 quality youth orchestras from all around the world and hosted c.750 concerts for 10,000 young musicians in magnificent venues in Florence and throughout Tuscany. The festival aims to represent as many different cultures and nationalities as possible and encourages applications from all youth and student symphony orchestras. In 2009 the festival will be open to a selection of max. 12 youth orchestras, depending on musical level and repertoire. Details on the application procedure are to be found below. Dates The 2009 festival will run from 15-30th July 2009. Festival participation is limited to a maximum of 5 days for each orchestra. Concerts Each orchestra will be invited to perform a maximum of 3 concerts. Concert opportunities will typically include one solo concert in Florence, a special joint concert with at least one other participating orchestra and a third solo concert in another major Tuscan venue. On their free evenings orchestras will be invited to attend other festival concerts as part of the audience. The musical programme is to be approved by the festival artistic board. Please submit a choice of repertoire of a serious classical nature; each concert should present c. 75 mins of music with no interval. The majority of concerts are free entrance, but the festival reserves the right to charge a small ticket entrance to help cover costs where necessary. Venues Beautiful venues in cathedrals, major piazzas, open-air courtyards, castles and theatres throughout Tuscany are home to the Florence Youth Festival. Venues for each orchestra are selected according to their individual nature and musical programme and are determined two months prior to the Festival. These may include : - Chiesa di S. Stefano / Palazzo Pitti in Florence -Terme Tettuccio in Montecatini Terme -Piazza del Duomo in San Gimignano - Basilica di San Giovanni / Piazza San Michele in Lucca -Teatro Signorelli in Cortona - Duomo di Perugia and many more. Please check our photogallery for more info. Florence Youth Festival is responsible for the full set-up of each venue including staging where necessary, lights, chairs and extensive promotion. Orchestras must provide their own music stands. Accommodation The Festival will take care of all hotel bookings for participating orchestras. Accommodation is available according to budget in 2* or 3/4* hotels, in half-board (bed, breakfast + 1 meal provided per day). Rooms for musicians are 3- or 4-bed; those for accompanying staff are twins (singles available at a supplement). All rooms are en-suite. Hotels are situated in Montecatini Terme, a spa town with a historic centre situated 40km from Florence. Application All applicants are requested to send before 31 December 2008 the following documents: -completed application form - a recent CV of the orchestra, conductor and any soloists - recent photo of orchestra -CD / mp3 recording Florence Youth Festival shall confirm participation by 31 January 2009. Accademia San Felice will be happy to offer quotes for a full Tuscan tour with splendid venues for any Orchestra whose application for the festival is unsuccessful. Costs Participating orchestras are responsible for their own travel costs to and from Italy, and all transfers within. The Festival can organise coach transfers within Italy for those arriving by air (services quoted on request). The Festival participation fee includes : -Half-Board hotel accommodation (max. 5 nights) - 1 tour escort throughout (or 2 for orchestras of 70+) -full organisation of max. 3 concerts - detailed tour itinerary Festival fees Fee per person per day in 2* hotel : euro 40 Fee per person in 3/4* hotel (with pool) : euro 60 Subsidies The Festival has a special subsidised rate for selected orchestras with restricted means or of particular interest.
